This week you will continue to practice your web searching. You will use more of the activities found on the 21st Century Information Fluency site.
First read the micromodule on search strategies here: http://21cif.com/tutorials/micro/mm/searchbox/
Next go to the Search Challenge-I list.
http://21cif.com/rkit/actionzone/index.html
Complete the Kermit and Lego search challenges first. In a comment for each of your search challenges, report your time and your level of success. What process did you use to figure out your search? What worked well? What did not work well?
If you have time or interest, choose further challenges from the list of intermediate searches. Report your process.
Have fun and happy searching!

Week 7 - Keyword search strategies
Last week you each took the Trails-9 Assessment of Information Literacy Skills. We will have a chance to go through it together, but in the meantime you will complete some online challenges to practice searching and researching skills. This week, you will complete several keyword search challenges, as you try to identify the most important words in a research question.
Follow this link for the website "21st Century Information Fluency" http://21cif.com/tutorials/challenge/Q2Q/KeywordChallenge.swf
During the time that you have, complete as many of the challenges as you are able. Reserve the last 10-15 minutes to report in a comment below on your progress. Which challenges did you complete? How did you do on each. Which of the four word categories was easiest and which was most difficult? What strategies did you learn and/or improve? How might you apply these strategies to your own personal and academic use of the internet?

Week 6!
What a crazy quarter this is turning out to be. All of you are doing a wonderful job of keeping the place going and learning new things about the library every day. Thank you so much!
For your SLA assignment this week, you will take a survey called TRAILS-9. It is a pre-test of library and information skills. We will review the results together and use them to identify areas of focus for learning.
If you are in 7th or 8th grade, you will take the 9th grade skills survey. This will help us identify what to work on to prepare you for high school. If you are in 6th grade, you will take the 6th grade skills survey. This will help us identify what to work on for success here at middle school.
You will use a personal code to log in to the survey. I am listing them here to make it easy for you. Please print our your results after you have taken the survey. Have fun!
