Third quater widow display.
Friendship is really important. That is why my window display is about just that. There is books about how to deal with friendship, how to make friendship bracelets, and just books about friendship. -Brooklynn Williamson
Small Window Display ....
Ooh! Our window has become more of a historic theme (newspapers) but mostly diaries and historical fiction books like: Dear America Where Have All the Flowers Gone?, Voyage on the Titanic, Early Sunday Morning, and Muckrakers. I also found The Year of the Hangman and Crispin the Cross of Lead!!! ----- Becca
Sonia's Window
I'm doing my window display on disasters. (Titanic, Triangle Factory fire...) My window says "Iceberg Ahead! Famous Disasters." I'm pretty much done, except the letters need to be thicker. They can't really be seen when you walk by. My window is the one under Kenya's flag. Hopefully you'll take a look at it!

Sarah and Becca's, Window Display #1
Becca and I are working together on one big window and another small one...I am going to describe the large one. We are going to do a mystery/adventure/spring themed display. We will display the Secret Benedict Society, Airborn books, Holes books, Maze runner books, and Haddix books. Note that this display will not include all the books from the series'.
It will say something like, "get active, get outside and discover your own mysteries!" Their will be a drawing of a spyglass and an eye looking through it, a picture of the sun and some grass..maybe a bug in it, and a foot print. This is sure to be a blast to create and hopefully will turn out great in the end!

Sarah and I are working on two windows. I am describing the smaller one. We were thinking of having newspapers and comics along with other books about newspapers. (some fiction ones and other "how-to" or non-fiction books) We were also going to inform people about the school newspaper, now available in the library!!! Basically we would use the window markers and say,"check out these books and our new school paper at the front of the library."
Just a paraphrase but that's pretty much it... we also talked about a background of streamers.

Week 3, Q3
This week the focus is circulation procedures. We will train you on checking out, checking in, renewing, and placing and processing holds. Please pay close attention to the process and ask as many questions as you need. The accounting of where our books are is the most important part of the library. We cannot hold our patrons responsible for lost and overdue books unless we are absolutely certain that we have checked them in and out correctly. Processing holds is a multi-step process that many SLA's have struggled with.
At the same time, we must protect patron confidentiality. Confidentiality means privacy. What students check out is private information and is protected by law. Three rules are very important:
1. Never tell another student or teacher what materials another patron has
2. Do not allow non-SLA's behind the circulation counter
3. Do not use the circulation computer for anything else
Please use your Blog time to work on your window display. Fill out the form to the right explaining your plan and what books you will include. Also, be sure to use the iPad to take pictures of your displays and other work you are doing. You will use the photos you take this quarter to document your work and your learning, so feel free to snap lots of pics.

Anna's Third Quarter Goals
Hello there.
Last year when I was an SLA I did fairly well completing my goals and I hope to
do the same this quarter. My patron assistance goal is to ask if the need
anything when they walk into the library and maybe suggest some good books. My
library organization goal is to shelf read more often. Last year I had trouble
shelf reading but this year I feel as if I am more comfortable doing so. My technology
or research goal is to spread the word of new books, events, etc that are in
the library. To accomplish these
goals I will stay focused and ask questions when I’m not absolutely sure of
what I’m doing. I will need help from Ms. Trumm and/or Ms. Merrigan by
answering the questions I have. I will know I have accomplished these goals by
seeing that the library is running more smoothly.
Sarah's Goals...
This quarter, I plan to do all I can to improve the library's organization by always checking problem spots and shelving when I have free time to spare. Helping partrons, doing everything to help them, and making them feel welcome is also apart of my quarterly goals. I hope to gain more knowledge of the technology available to me and I also hope to complete the year with more knowledge of the the library. I am so glad I was picked to be a library assistant and am hoping to come back more ready and prepared for what next year brings! :)

Brooklynn's Goals.
I would like to get completely comfortable checking out books for patrons, and helping them find books. I would also like to be able to have organization in the library almost complete. Getting completely comfortable with the technology is so important and i hope to do just that.
Goal Week 2 Quarter 3
My first goal would be to try to make the library more
attractive, mainly using the window display. I think this goal would improve
our patrons experience mainly because it would make the library more enjoyable
for more patrons that don't necessarily enjoy the library now. My second goal
is to learn more and practice more about the library circulation system at MMS.
I think this goal would help the library run smoother because if I and the other SLAs help run the desk more then the librarians who work at Marshall will have more time to work on the things that we cant. My third and final goal is to learn more about this blogging system so that I can become more comfortable with blogger.
My Goals
Patron Goal:
My goal is to learn how to put books on hold.
Organization goal:
I want to do more shelving. I'm also really excited for my window display!
Technology goal:
I want to learn how to use the catalog more precisely, like when I should use keywords and when I should use subject...

My goal to help patrons is to learn to check out books. Then I can check books out to patrons instead of going to find someone who knows how to.
My organization goal to help the library to run smoothly is to remember all of the jobs that I've been learning these last two weeks. I want to be able to g a whole week without asking questions about any of my jobs.
My technology/research goal is to learn to use the blog better. I keep getting confused and turned around, even just trying to post this! So I definitely want to know the blog better.
SLA Goals Third Quarter
Goals:
1) Patron goal--- third quarter I want to learn to check out and renew books.
2) Library organization goal--- third quarter I want to keep up on my problem area and learn my way around all the sections, not just fiction.
3) Technology/research goal--- I want to learn to search the catalog and become more comfortable blogging.
I will be able to accomplish these goals by watching others, practicing, and familiarizing myself here.

Goals
My goals for this quarter regarding being a library patron is I want to be able to help students find books that they will enjoy reading and can get into so that they like the library. And that means I will have to know my way around the library a little more and know what other types of books there are and if they are good. My goal for library organization is to shelve all the books quickly, correctly, and with a hundred percent accuracy. I am really fast with numbers but a little slower with the alphabet so I need to improve that. My goal for technology and research is to figure out how to use noodle tools because it is a little confusing to me but I think I could get the hang of it. Also to use library research pages and boollian operator. I know I will accomplish my goal when I feel like I could do these things without really having to think about it to much. Those are my goals for third quarter.

Ms. Merrigan's post
The last book I read was The Fifth Witness by Michael Connelly. It's a courtroom drama set in Los Angeles. I have read many of Connelly's books and enjoy the suspense. The best book that I have ever read may be Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen or One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Sometimes you read a book and the language, characters, feel stick with you and change how you approach future books. Both of the books are like that for me.
I am really looking forward to working with all of you. Having eight SLA's means that we have time for more special projects and specialization. You will be able to set learning and project goals and be able to do more than just shelving. Thanks for being a part of our library!

Third Quarter SLA
The last book I finished reading was How Angel Peterson Got His Name by Gary Paulson. I really like this book because of its humor and originality.
My favorite book ever would have to be Aces up by Lauren Barnholdt. I liked this book because it was suspenseful, humorous, and romantic. I think it would be a great addition to the library.
One thing I am most excited about is getting back into the swing of things since last year I was a SLA with Roman. I had a great time last year and expect no less this year.

The last book I read was Unfinished Business by Nora Roberts. It was a good book with great plot. The best I read in my whole life is Command Performance by Nora Roberts. It was really great. A suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. The thing I am most excited about is that I get to be around books and help people.
Third Quarter
1. The last book I read was Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading. It's a Mustang Must Read
2. The best book I have ever read in my whole life: The Thirteenth Tale. It's a mystery, and I did it for my second quarter book project. I think everybody who enjoys mysteries should read this book (and even if you don't like mysteries).
3. I'm really looking forward to shelving books. I feel like I can really get to know the library better.

Sarah's SLA post!!
- The last book I read was Little Women.
- The best book I've read in my entire life was the Hunger Games Trilogy! No doubt about that, everyone should read these books...they changed how I thought about reading and I read way more than I used to...
- I am look forward to...I guess...working with books; like repairing them, working at the circulation desk, and working on projects and displays for the library. :)
Third Quater SLA
The last book I have read was This Book is Not Good for You. The best book I have ever read was the Sisters Grimm. One thing I look forward to when being a SLA is to meet new people and get new skills.
The last book that I've read is called The Shadow Thieves by Anne Ursu. It's pretty good, but its a bit slow at the begging and it never really picks up the pace.
My favorite book of all time is called City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I love a lot of books, but right now this one is my favorite.
I am really excited to be an SLA and the part that I'm most excited about is spending time in the library and learning about how you add a new book to the inventory.

Third Quarter (Becca:)
- The last book I read was The Book Of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale.
- The best book I've ever read is Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
- I am looking forward to learning about the catalog and making window displays.
Legrand Post 1
The last book that I have read is 1984. My favorite book is probably Brave New World. One thing that I look forward to as a SLA is learning more about our specific library.
