Sonia's Quarter 4 Goals

  • Library Goal: I want to do more shelving. I don't do very much shelving, so I want to do more.
  • Technology Goal: I want to learn how to use the catalog better.
  • Patron Goal: I want to be able to help more people. I know where stuff is located, but I want to check books out to people more often. I work during 1st lunch and usually the library isn't very full.
I have loved working in the library and I hope I can be an SLA next year!

Fourth Quarter Goals.

During my fourth quarter working as a SLA in the library i would like to...
      1. Be helping people with finding any books they need/ want. Also be able to point out  some books for them that are in there area of interest.
       2. I want to be able to help anyone with anything they want. Checking out books for people and doing it right 100% of the time. Also putting holds on any type of book.
        3. Being 100% sure of where all of the popular books are, so if people ask where they are, i can tell them. Also someone asking for a book looking up it's call number and going to get it without hesitation.
I can't believe it's already 4th quarter! I had such a great time working as a SLA in the library. I hope that I will do this next year.

Anna's Fourth Quarter Goals

This quarter has gone by so fast. I have enjoyed myself re-familiarizing myself with the library technology and resources and getting to know my fellow SLAs. I accomplished my goals last quarter and hope to do the same this time. One of my goals is to get to understand and use more of the different kinds of technology the library provides (eLibrary, Gale, etc.). This will help me put together my CBA and help me research. Another one of my goals is to get to know the reference section more. This will also help my CBA. A patron assistance goal that I hope to accomplish is to help out with circulation. Last quarter I usually gave the oppurtunity to check out/in books to the other SLAs in my period to help them get to know the technology. Now that they're aces, I think its my turn to help out patrons. I hope this quarter will be just as fun as third quarter. Good luck, everyone!

Madi H. goals

This quarter there are several things that I need to improve on by making goals.  My first goal is to learn how to use eLibrary and Gale Reference Library better.  In light of the upcoming CBA, I think that this will be a very useful skill to have.  Another goal that I have is to learn what to do when a book has a hold on it.  Even though this has never come up for me, it would be nice to know that I can process a book with a hold.  My final goal is to become more familiar with the reference section of the library.  That is the place where I have the most trouble shelving and finding books, and again in light of the CBA, this is a super important skill to have.

Sarah's 4th Quarter Goals!!

I can't believe it's already the last quarter of the year!! I love working with all of you in the library. Here are some of my goals...For patron services...I would still like to work with and help patrons any way I can (like before). Such as; looking for a book that appeals to them, checking in and out, renewing and solving problems to the best of my ability. (Asking for Ms.Trumm or Mrs.Marragain's help when needed.) Next, for the technology part, I would like to man and keep an eye on the circulation desk at all times, learn more about helpful websites, and make sure me and everyone else using the library is using the available technology correctly and wisely. Finally, in the  library research and skills section, I will do my daily jobs and assignments to the best of my ability and improve my knowledge of the library and everything else I can learn to be a better SLA! :D

Q4 Week 2 - setting goals

This week in a post, I would like you to develop three goals on which to focus this quarter.  As you did last quarter, I would like your goals to focus in three areas:
  • patron services
  • technology
  • library and research skills

If you are an 8th grader, I want you to develop at least one of those goals so that it helps you in your CBA research and makes you a resource to your fellow students.  Some examples of such goals might be becoming a NoodleTools expert, studying how to best use eLibrary, developing a deep familiarity with the resources in the reference section, 300's and 900's, etc.

At the end of the quarter you will complete another project that will demonstrate your learning and work, particularly as it relates to your goals.  You will create a different project from quarter three.  Throughout the quarter, you may want to document your progress and consider forms that your final project may take.

Thanks for all your work.  You are a talented and wonderful group of students, and I feel fortunate that you are part of our library team!

Sarah's Book Review!

Catching Fire is the sequel to the action-packed Hunger Games book series! Now just months after the the heart-wrenching, 74th Hunger Games, Katniss lives on Victor lane, along with her mother and Primrose. With the winnings they can afford everything and anything, Haymitch and Peeta live across the street, and the Victory Tour will start in a couple months time; her life is perfect right? Not. Katniss thought she was going to end the Games and live a luxurious life until and announcement about the 75th Hunger Games stops her in her tracks...Two victors from each district, no matter what living condition in, would compete in the next annual hunger games, which means....she'd being going back into the arena and this time, she would be keeping Peeta alive; not planning on coming out... Knowing Peeta would volunteer to to go in with her, she was doomed....What would her life be like? Katniss didn't know until Peeta proposed and President Snow came to District 12...
This engulfing sequel engulfed me right away! This book is filled with romance, heart-wrenching moments, and scenes where I thought I would cry, I got very emotional. My favorite part is when Peeta and Katniss have the whole day to themselves and have an all-day picnic on the training center roof. I also thought the scene where they're walking down the hall talking and Peeta says "I just want to spend every minute of the rest of my life with you.." It was so sweet and heartfelt. So, if you enjoy friendship,  love stories, battle, survival, and heart-break, you will absolutely adore this action-packed book in the trilogy!!!(For more of the Hunger Games...read The first book in the trilogy: Hunger Games, this book; he second: Catching Fire, and the third and final soul-engulfing book: Mockingjay. :D)

Book Review
The book I am doing my review on is Paranormalcy, by Kiersten White. The book is about a girl named Evie who works for the I.P.C.A. It stands for International Paranormal Containment Agency. Working for the I.P.C.A. is all Evie's ever known. She was in the foster system growing up and she has no clue who she is or what her real name is. Evie is a very special girl. She can see through paranormals glimmers, which is like a cloaking over there true form. She is the only one in the world that can do this that they know of. Everything is going okay for Evie when all of a sudden paranormals start dropping dead with there souls sucked out of them and they have no clue how or who is doing it. Then things get weirder. Evie's ex-boyfriend, Reth, starts trying to take her away to the fairy realm, and there is a break-in at the agency, but Evie doesn't know what to think of the strange, see through, water colored boy.
I loved this book the first time I read it, and I love it more every time I re-read it.  Paranormalcy is a riveting supernatural book that catches your interests from the first page. Between Evie's pink taser (tasey) and the way she thinks normal life is like one of her favorite high school drama shows, you will be laughing your butt off. The characters pull you in to the book and grow on you, though some more then others. There is a lot of twists and turns that will leave you guessing, some sad some happy. This story is a refreshing take on paranormal books. I give it five stars.

I think I have learned a lot and have loved working in the library this quarter.

Some things I've accomplished are:
- learning to set up for BOB
- learning the basic jobs
- finding my way around the library
- finishing my first window display

Some things I can still improve in are:
-working with book returns/checkouts... I want to be faster
-working with overflow books

My favorite parts of third quarter were:
-making new friends
-setting up for BOB
-playing the shelving games
-working on window displays
-working on my final video project

Quarter Evaluation

I think I have done a good job, but sometimes I get distracted when shelf reading or facing up, because I think Oh, that book looks interesting! and I look at it. I am really trying to get better at that. I wish I had more opportunities to help patrons because I don't really feel like I get to do that. My favorite things are the blog, shelf reading, and my window display. I'm really glad I'm and S.L.A., because it has been a really fun experience.

Final Week of Q3

This week, please use your blog time to work on your final project (see previous post).  We will also get together some time this week to talk about your quarter evaluation.  If you would like to retest on shelving, please let me know so that we can schedule it.

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to the library!  Look next week for a new job schedule.
