Final Project

Hi, it's Sonia!!!
I like the idea of teaching somebody how to do something, so I may make a video teaching somebody how to use blogger or the computer at the front desk. I'm moving in July, and I will really miss Marshall! I hope that if I visit I can come visit Ms. Merrigan and Ms. Trumm and meet the new SLAs!
For my 4th quarter project I decided to use a screen cast for my project of explaining noodle tools since I used Google docs last time. I will have me doing a voice over while pointing to stuff and showing you how to create citations/bibliography and taking notes. I was thinking of using explain everything but I kind of want to make it like more like that Con-academy website that helps explain math.

Quarter 4...Final Project Explaintion

Hi! This is Sarah here! Over the next three weeks all the SLA's will be working on a Final Project for the end of the year, as you probably already know...For mine, I will be using Explain Everything AND Extra-Normal to create this project. Becca and I came up with the idea of making a slideshow of the quarter and possibly the tsemester on Explain Everything...Then, I would create video on Extra-Normal and have the character do something and making it look like he is watching the video. The character will be commenting on my presentation slideshow and will be explain certain pictures and pieces of my slideshow. Pictures will be included, with captions, and the voice-over will be by the character on Extra-Normal...This is a challenge and risk I am willing to take and I hope it turns out all right! If this works out, it is sure to be amazing...Happy end of the year and happy summer!!

Final Project due June 15

Hello! For the next three weeks your blog day will be all about your final project. You will create a project that shows evidence of your learning and your work towards achieving the goals you set at the beginning of the quarter. Here are a few requirements:

1. The project must be in "postable" format when finished, with a URL.
2. The project must use a different tech tool than the one you made third quarter (i.e., if you used Google Docs, use something else; if you used Explain Everything, use something else.)
3. The project must provide proof that you worked toward your goals, or you may focus on the evidence of one of your goals.
4. BONUS: The project could be used to teach someone else the skill (for example, if one of your goals was to learn to use Noodletools really well, you could create a screencast that shows someone else how to use it.).

Please make a blog post this week with your initial ideas about what your project will be and what goals/learning you will demonstrate. What help do you need?  I can help you find the right tech tool to achieve what you have in mind.  Have fun with this project!

New Window Display

I wanted to start on the new window today. I was thinking it would be fun to have one on food, I've already searched for quotes and things and couldn't find anything that would work. So far, though, I was thinking about drawing a hamburger and having books on health tips, cook books, and maybe some fictional books on food if I can find one. I'll write more later when I figure the rest out, but that's the basic outline.

Week of May 14-18

This week the focus is on inventory. Most if not all of you have done some inventory work already. I hate to tell you this, but the easy part is over. The rest is hot, dusty, detective work. After shelving, you will use most of your SLA time working with a partner on inventory. Posted on the library office door is a list of places where major troves of library treasures are stored. Please work on a selected location and check off on the sheet when you complete the inventory of all items with barcodes that you can find. The goal is to scan everything we can find with a barcode on it. It won't hurt anything if something gets scanned more than once. Currently we have completed 87.93% of the inventory. When we get up into the upper 90%'s, we will print out a list and really start searching for the stragglers. Thanks for your diligence and hard work!

For our window display our subject is, storms, weather, and climate. Including window drawings of rain falling, snow falling, lighting, sun, clouds, flowers, and a big green tree.(: The books include: Storms Causes and Effects, How We Know What We Know About Our Changing Climate, Wind And Weather, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Heatwave Causes And Effects, Snow And Ice, The Weather Sky, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Drought, Rainbows Mirages and Sundogs: The Sky as a Source of Water. New Window Display

I just designed a new window not very long ago, so I hope it's okay if I leave it up until May 20th. Then I'll take it down and wash the window.

Week of May 7-11

You have a few tasks this week for your blog work. The first is to go back to your last several posts and read any comments that other SLA's have made about your goal work and their suggestions for working on it. Each week you should continue to revisit your goals and put some energy into reaching them and documenting them. This work will be a big part of your final project. Your second task today is to plan and write about a new window display. This window display should go up fairly quickly. It will need to come down by May 20 to make room for the ASB art show. Be sure to include a new blog post telling about your idea, what books you will include, and what other features will be in your display.

E-Library Navigation Goal Evaluation/Improvement

I spent time working on E-Library navigation by researching "The Watergate Cover-up" using that database. I learned a lot and am becoming closer to my goal of an E-Library expert. I feel pretty comfortable working on this database and think I could help answer other patron questions about this source.

Accomplishments

One of my three goals was to become more familiar with Gale Reference and eLibrary. Since the CBA has kicked off, I think I have done a fairly good job doing so. I am comfortable with finding articles and specific information about my CBA topic (child labor). I can also help out my fellow classmates so they can find what they need. I prefer using eLibary rather than Gale because it has more articles on a topic in different situations. I will continue to use Gale and eLibrary both for the rest of my CBA research.

Achievements/goals.

I loved working in the library! I can't believe it almost over!:( But one of my goals is be one next year also!:) Another achievement of mine is placing holds. It could be very confusing for me a lot of the time. But now I have it down!:) I also got pretty good at finding a book from author and last name. Like I said I LOVED working as  an SLA! I loved meeting everyone and the librarians!

TODAY I

Today I worked on becoming more familiar with eLibrary and Gale Reference Library.  I think that I can navigate both of them fairly well now, but I am more comfortable with eLibrary than with Gale.  I think that this is because Gale Reference Library has more pathways and information on the articles, while eLibrary has a little information on a lot of articles.

Sarah's goal improvement...

I think I am starting to improve on the goals I set in the beginning of 4th Quarter! Some examples are, placing holds; I have learned to process them correctly, doing the steps in order and making sure I do all of them. Also, I have gained a little bit more knowledge of the library, such as technology and book placement. Today (5/1/12), the tech. guy came into the library to fix the online MSP problems. He asked me to help and I did, doing the tutorials again and completing a short test to see if the problems would come up again. Turned out that it was fine and the MSP would still be running on schedule! I'm sure this will be a great quarter and I will accomplish my goals to the best of my skills and abilities.

Week of 4/30-5/4

This week for your blog assignment please comment on your fellow SLA's goals that they have set.  Comment on at least three other students.  Focus on specific ideas that you have for how they might achieve their goals or how they might know when they have reached their goals.  You might also include ideas about how they might demonstrate in their final projects the PROOF of reaching those goals.

Also, please use your blog day to focus on one of your own goals.  Spend about 20 minutes exploring a tool or practicing a skill.  Then make a new blog post explaining what you did and what you learned.  Include a sentence about how you might demonstrate this learning/achievement in your final project.

Thanks so much for all your hard work!  I was so proud to see you all up on stage for your interpersonal intelligence awards.  This job requires lots of interpersonal intelligence on your part, and you all impress me each day.
