This week the focus is circulation procedures. We will train you on checking out, checking in, renewing, and placing and processing holds. Please pay close attention to the process and ask as many questions as you need. The accounting of where our books are is the most important part of the library. We cannot hold our patrons responsible for lost and overdue books unless we are absolutely certain that we have checked them in and out correctly. Processing holds is a multi-step process that many SLA's have struggled with.
At the same time, we must protect patron confidentiality. Confidentiality means privacy. What students check out is private information and is protected by law. Three rules are very important:
1. Never tell another student or teacher what materials another patron has
2. Do not allow non-SLA's behind the circulation counter
3. Do not use the circulation computer for anything else
Please use your Blog time to work on your window display. Fill out the form to the right explaining your plan and what books you will include. Also, be sure to use the iPad to take pictures of your displays and other work you are doing. You will use the photos you take this quarter to document your work and your learning, so feel free to snap lots of pics.
