All of you are now seasoned SLA's and I'm so pleased to have you as part of the team. All of you bring skills and personality traits that add to our program. A big THANK YOU to each and every one of you.
New quarter - time to set some goals! In the comments section below, you will add three goals in three areas. For each goal, write two actions that you will take to work towards your goal. The three areas are:
1. Patron assistance
2. Library skills/organization
3. Technology skills
Please be specific about what you want to achieve and how you will get there. See me if you need some ideas.
1.Patron Assistance:I want to make sure that when i help other students find a book in certain section that i also recommend another book.Also i would want to make sure that i make the patron not feel awkward and nervous.
ReplyDelete2.Library Skills/organization:Making sure that my shelves are the best looking(clean),most alphabetically correct, and that they are better than any other section in the library(might happen).
3.Technology skills:Better at knowing how to find certain sites on the comp. and making sure i know when to go on and off(info lit).
Also being more on task and making myself know the library BETTER.
1. Patron Assistance: This quarter for my goal in Patron Assistance, I would like to make at least two book marks with a book suggestion list and some drawings. There for when someone asks if I have any book suggestions I can just referre them to the book mark.
ReplyDelete2. Library Skills/Organization: This quarter my goial in Library Skills, is to keep my "shelves" cleaner as in the actual shelve part as well as the books. And to keep not only my section but the rest of the library in ther correct order and clean.
3. Technology Skills: This quarter in the Technology Skills section of our learning I want to better understand the Elibrary system, and be able to fix a computer. For example when it says that it cant print Iwould like to be able to fix that.:D
Patron Assistance:
ReplyDelete1. Writing reviews for students to help them pick and choose a book with more knowlege on what it's about.
2. Actively assist students in the library by asking them if they need any help and if they do, help them as much as possible.
Library Skills/Organization:
1. I need to dust and clean my shelves more often so that when someone goes to get a book they won't be disgusted by how dirty it is.
2. I need to read my shelves more than I did last quarter so that when someone is looking for a book, it will be right where it should be and they won't have any trouble finding it.
Technology Skills:
1.I need to except the fact that I am going to have to do this blog and I need to stop whining to Ms. Trumm and Mrs. Merrigan about it.
2. I want to learn how to use E-Library better, because we are using it in class and it would be nice to have more experience with it so I could help my classmates.

1: Dusting my shelves more often, like Mrs. Merrigan recommended.
2:I'll also try to work more with circulation so i can do things easier and practice. without asking what to do.
Technology Skills:
1: I'll try and learn as much as there is to be taught about the technology, want to learn. But get more practice with cropping photo's on the photo scanner.
2: Work more with hooking up and setting up the projector.

Patron assistance: I would like to be able to help anyone who asks about a book. A bunch of times someone will ask me if a book is good and I'll shrug and have no clue.
ReplyDeleteLibrary Skills/Organization: I would like to be able to shelve books faster and get better at recognizing which books are out of order, also I would like to clean my shelves more this quarter.
Technology: I want to keep learning little tricks about word and power point and other well used programs so I could answer more questions that patrons ask about computers.
Patron assistance: I would like to be able to help people when they need it. Some steps I could take toward doing this would be to be more observant. Sometimes I'll be shelving books, and I'll turn around, and there will be a ticked looking kid standing at the check out counter that' been there for the past five minutes! Oops, sorry!
ReplyDeleteLibrary Skills/Organization: I would like to dust my shelves more often. A step I could take toward achieving this goal would be to be less forgetful, and to make time for myself to dust.
Technology: I would like to be able to answer questions people have about the computer. I want to be a real librarian some day, and in order to do that, I have to know how to work with the technology.

ReplyDeleteHello, my goal for Patron Assistance is: To be able to answer all their questions about the books. I can use the catalog to help me, and maybe read more books, but I don't want to be reading 24/7, I would like to have a life.;)

My goal for Technology is: To be able to answer most of the questions people have about computers. I can ask Ms Merrigan and Ms Trumm, or ask Doug.

Patron Assistants-
ReplyDeleteMy goal for the quarter in Patron Assistants is to be able to run the circulation desk with as little help as possible. Of course getting help is fine, but i would like to be able to do the majority off the circulation desk on my own. To achieve this goal I am going to try and run the circ. desk more, and try and learn as much about it as i can in a short amount of time.
Library Skills/Organization-
My goal for library skills and organization is to be able to know where EVERYTHING is. I want to be able to be positive that something is where is it. I have been almost positive in that past, but i just want to make sure. To do this i am going to pay more attention when i shelve books in different places. I will also try and help people find things more, because i think it will help me learn.
Technology Skills-
My goal for this area is to be able to help anyone who is using a computer. I can do this by using all the different programs more often and watching while other library SLA's help the patrons using the computers.
